There are over 200 public and 80 private research centers in the HAUTS-DE-SEINE. Many work in research partnerships with the universities and Grandes Ecoles. For this reason, technology transfer is a two way street, from the academic research institutions to industry and vice-versa. Sectors are as varied as are the incredible talents and economic potential found in the
HAUTS-DE-SEINE. There are also a number of prestigious research centers, including the CNRS (French National Scientific Research Center), which is located in five towns in the HAUTS-DE-SEINE, the Atomic Energy Commission, the ONERA, or National Office for Aerospace Research, the INSERM, or National Center for Health and Medical Research, the IFP or French Petroleum Institute and the Meudon Observatory. Research focuses on transportation infrastructure, capital goods, aerospace, electronics, chemicals, pharmacy, etc. Aérospatiale, Alcatel, Atochem, BSN, Bureau Véritas, CEGELEC, Dassault Aviation, EDF, Framatome, France Telecom, Gec Alsthom, LVMH, Matra Transport, Philips Composants, Renault, Sanofi Diagnostics, Schlumberger Industries, SNECMA and Thomson have all opted to set up their research and development centers in the HAUTS-DE-SEINE.
Training and education include long and short term programs involving both theory
and practical applications. Education in the HAUTS-DE-SEINE is as The HAUTS-DE-SEINE also includes a number of institutions of higher learning, placing the Department at the forefront of innovation and education.
The curriculum and training at the Leonardo da Vinci University Center are designed in conjunction with businesses. Several foreign organizations work in collaboration in the training itself. This original pedagogical system is based on a tutorial education program, focusing on personalized training and orientation.
